The Witness.

“I just witnessed a murder.”

I nearly spat my coffee out across my lap as I lazed in the banana lounge on the back porch and realised Snowflake, the cute white polar bear with the green hat and green scarf was talking to me.

“What are you doing?” I replied.

“Reporting a distressing murder scene.” The bear stated.

“No, I mean what are you coming to me for? You’re Jen’s sanity bear, not mine.”

“I think I have failed?”

“What do you mean?”

“I hate to admit it but I really don’t think Jen’s as sane as she should be whilst being under the control of such a cute bear.”

“Well considering the incidents with the chocolate and her long sleep on the floor in the hallway, which I notice you’ve been able to pin on me.”

“Oh you heard about that?” The reply came from the sweetest and most innocent of faces.

“Yeah, I did.”

“Well I really don’t think those mishaps should be blamed on me. They should also not be used as evidence to suggest Jen’s insanity is my fault,”

“Ok, so you’re a success, Jen’s insane and you witnessed a murder. Sound like situation normal around here.” I answered, still wondering why the cute little bear had brought this issue to me and whether Big Bear, would be ok with this new method.

“You don’t seem to be taking me very seriously.” Snowflake said with a hint of a growl in his voice.

“Ok, lets start again then shall we?” I paused for effect. “Hello cute little Snowflake bear, what can I do for you?”

Not overly impressed but obviously wanting to get his situation sorted Snowflake started again.

“I just witnessed a murder.”

“Oh no, what happened? Did you call the police? Are you ok?” I asked sarcastically.

“No I am not ok, I just witnessed a murder.”

“Ok Bear explain before we get caught up in another circle of silliness and Big Bear starts wondering about my sanity.”

“I was having a wee siesta in the bedroom, as I do every morning, afternoon and evening and I heard a terrible noise. An ear drum bursting racket. A noise so squeaky and crackled that I think I actually felt my ears start bleeding. By the time my head started throbbing I couldn’t take it any more so I went out to the lounge to investigate and see if I could stop all the pain.”

Still confused as to where the story was going and how this was related to a murder I remained silent and let the bear continue.

“It wasn’t until I stepped into the lounge that I actually heard the stereo was on, I couldn’t hear it over the other racket. It was then I realised the racket and din I was hearing was Jen committing murder, she was trying to sing to Theory of a Deadman.”
